At our annual conference in Kettering this year, one of the biggest asks from members all over the UK was to bring more international research opportunities into UK primary care — to the benefit of us all: member practices, our patients, the NIHR and the UK economy. To let the world know how unique, well set up and passionate we are about primary care clinical research.
So we made the trek to SCOPE Europe in Barcelona, one of the world’s biggest clinical research conferences.
PCRA was very generously given a main-stage speaking slot by the SCOPE organisers — and our members were so right. What UK primary care can do became a huge conversation.
The talk turned into an interactive session rather than a lecture. The audience asked for even more detail about what UK primary care can offer, including in rare diseases, and shared their own positive experiences. It was followed by meetings at stands, lots of coffee, and conversations about bringing UK arms of current studies into general practice.
Next step: we’ll be linking these opportunities with members, RDN teams and ICB leads.
And yes — importantly — the team also got out in the evening to see the sights of Barcelona.
